We received several text documents the other day that were over 3GB in size. If you've ever tried to open a document of that size in notepad, you already know that it quickly brings your computer to a grinding halt (unless you have a ton of RAM). In order to view the data we needed to split the file into smaller, more manageable sizes. To split the text file in the fastest and most efficient way possible, I used File Splitter and Joiner 3.3.
Simply select the source file you wish to split, select the output directory to put the resulting files in, determine how you want to split the file, and click 'Split'. It only took about 10-15 minutes for me to split a 3.7GB text file into two pieces. The program also includes a text joining option, but I haven't tried that out yet.
You can download File Splitter and Joiner 3.3 for free at http://www.softpedia.com/get/File-managers/File-Splitter-and-Joiner.shtml
